Job Description Summary
Responsible for the Wealth Management Group's (WMG) customized credit approval process, the underwriting and analysis of customized credit, portfolio quality, and the resulting portfolio management activities of those credits in partnership with the Field sales force (Private Client Advisors - PCAs). Provides credit and loan underwriting expertise to Market Leaders, PCAs), WMG Lenders, and internal business partners. Analyzes, underwrites, and approves (within established authority) loan requests generated from PCAs. Monitors, tracks and manages the credit portfolio with the goal of minimizing credit losses and maintaining compliance with credit review policy while escalating credit issues to management. Acts as team leader in supervising WMG Senior Lenders and support staff. Provides matrix and/or direct management oversight to WMG line and lenders/analysts/underwriters responsible for analyzing financial and other data, underwriting and structuring borrowings, preparing CRs, ordering and ensuring effective documentation, and/or directly negotiating and closing loan/line transactions with WMG clients. Develop deep partnership with separate, centralized consumer loan underwriting team to ensure comprehensive and consistent product underwriting, adherence to the Bank's Four Eyes concept (dual decision-making between line of business and credit support functions), sharing of best practices, and mutual achievement of service level agreements.
Essential Job Functions
Team leader overseeing credit and underwriting activities of other officers to ensure current and potential clients are properly analyzed to minimize credit losses. Oversees the work of others, including preparation of Credit Reviews/Green Light Memos, etc., while training credit staff and allocating and monitoring work.
Through the oversight of the WMG lenders/analysts/underwriters, ensures a high standard of credit quality through the process of customized credit underwriting and portfolio monitoring and management, while reinforcing growth, quality and achievement of profitability metrics.
Develops innovative credit solutions to meet customer/prospect needs.
Ensures development and preparation of effective proposals for presentation to existing and potential clients.
Leads and manages staff to ensure the proper review and structure of loan proposals that meet the customer's or prospect's needs while conforming to bank and regulatory requirements.
Deep collaboration with Credit and Counterparty Risk to ensure common strategic alignment on lending terms and implementation.
Analyzes pertinent financial and credit data to make and recommend lending decisions within signing authority.
Ensures timely renewal and/or review of the customized credit portfolio and takes appropriate action on covenant violations, downgrades or modifications. Exhibits independent judgment, ensures balanced loan presentations, responsible for ongoing account monitoring, proactive in problem detection/resolution, maintains balance between growth objectives and credit quality. Interacts with Credit & Counterparty Risk, NFG Risk Management, Legal, Compliance and other related Bank personnel to ensure quality control and risk management of WMG credit relationships, appropriate compensation for risk, as well as advising on new business and related trends.
Other Job Duties
Provides a common Group framework and is instrumental in defining, strengthening, amending and implementing current policies/procedures and control functions at all levels of the underwriting and credit approval process.
Ability to develop strong partnership with Consumer Real Estate Services (CRES) and the Wealth Management Credit Services (WMCS) teams to ensure seamless delivery of various credit products to WMG clients.
Supports Regional Managers, Market Leaders and Private Client Advisors efforts to acquire and support WMG clients' credit needs.
Conducts meetings as appropriate with WMG line and lenders/analysts/underwriters to communicate information, discuss problems, train staff on any procedure changes, and provide forum for staff to discuss pertinent issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires broad management knowledge to lead project teams in one department.
Typically has mastery level knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with broad understanding of other areas within the job function.
Requires 10-12 years minimum prior relevant experience.
- Bachelor's Degree
Thorough knowledge of commercial and consumer lending, and the financial and investment services needs of high net worth segment.
Excellent knowledge and ability to analyze financial statements, tax returns and cash flow commercial lending background.
Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency.
Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
Negotiation and business development skills.
